….to keep the long story short….

Man, I havent wirtten for a while!

So what has been going on in London so far?

We saw few exhibitions in the meantime. A very nice one was the Islington Arts and Design Fair. The mood within that event was really relaxed and reminded me more of a cocktail party than an exhibition. There were lots of flyers and postcards to take away for free, which I surely couldn’t resist. According to Jose’s suggestion I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s with Audrey Hepburn.

One weekend my girlies – Linda, Gerline, Claudia and Marlene – came to visit me! Was quite funny with them! They had a room in Kings-Cross and only stayed from Firday to Sunday! So they had quite busy days! Friday we met for dinner and then went for a walk on Oxford Street! Afterwards they wanted to go home rather quickly, cause they really had lots of program on Saturday… However after they had finished they sightseeing we met at Camden Market and I showed them “Market-Place Heaven” of London! They liked it – for sure! In the evening we went to Angel – an area in north-east London where you can find lots and lots of nice little pubs and bars.

The girls seemed quite exhausted of all the impressions they got from one day London! I could really understand how they must have felt and so I didn’t keep them from going back to the hostel! Edith and me stayed for another pint – guess we are already used to it!

Sunday I met Nives at London Bridge and we went to Tate Modern! She also got visited from an Austrian friend on Friday and Saturday. We enjoyed the wonderful building and intersting arts!

never ever plan when you’re in London

October 7, 2008 at 10:49 pm (1)

We really had a good plan for what to do Saturday and Sunday! We found out many exhibitions we wanted to watch and arranged times when to meet where.

Saturday we wanted to meet at Southbank to watch a Comic-Exhibition, that didn’t exist! As Austrians (thanks Kronenzeitung) we should have known that you can’t always trust, what the newspaper sais! However… we have been at a Comic and Film Museum in Southbank! Was really nice and we shot lots of funny photos!

Afterwards we went to the British Museum to see the statue of Kate Moss in a yoga-position. The statue is made of 50kg pure gold and as I found out Kate only posed for the face! That was a big disappointment!

After that we went to Oxford Street! We passed a stand, where a guy selled watches and all sorts of other jewellry.. I’m a girl – sure I couldn’t pass! As I saw the prices on the signs I went on – desperately, because I know I could never afford a bloody watch for 99pounds! About 10 steps later Dipo told me, that all the watches were only 5pounds! Of course I went back immediately and asked the salesman if that was true. He just answered: “Sure darling, the price on the cases is only there to make them even look better!” So it was clear: A new watch for me!

Lateron we made our way down Oxfordstreet! We passt Oxford Circus and went on and went on and went on… I just wanted to lie down and sleep, but then we saw it right befor our eyes, we entered, we were there: PARADISE! I can tell you: Primark was made by god himself! A store where you can buy everything to prices even I can afford! Well, how beautiful it is, we were not the only ones who knew about that! So we were trapped inbetween millions of shoppers. If you finally manage to find a piece of cloths you like: just grab it without trying it on and make your way to the cash desk immediately, because you can be sure to queue up for at least one hour! However, this was absolutely worth it – 3 pieces for 12pounds!

In the evening we went to Soho to search the hairdresser Nives and I had found 2 weeks before. Spontanious as we are, we went in to have our hair cut!

To celebrate our new style dignified we met at a pub later at night.

Sunday Betta and me got up rather early in order to meet Nives. We wanted to go to the Bricklane Market. Due to some problems Nives didn’t come and so Betta and me went there alone! The weather was shit, Betta didn’t have her good italian coffee (I only have instant and an Italian drinking this would be the end of the world) so the atmosphere was not very cheered!

After we’ve been to a nice Cafe on the Market, Betta was happy again and so we went on strolling through. Later we went to Old Street where we should find a exhibition of some crazy guy! Well.. it’s not that easy if you neither have the name of the artist, nor of the exhibition, nor of the museum where it is! So guess what happend.. we didn’t find it!

Look on the bright side: we have seen a new part of London and found Cargo, a possibility for going out the next time!

… can’t believe the weekend’s gone ….

September 28, 2008 at 7:40 pm (1)

How is it possible, that time passes so quickly?

It has just been friday! Now it is sunday evening and I’ve got the feeling I’ve done nothing! Probably because I’ve slept the whole day, because we got home from fabric at 8 or something!

However, yesterday was really nice! The sun was shining the hole day and me and my collegues Nives, Betta and Jose were enjoying the wonderful weather in central london! We met on trafalgarsquare in order to watch the Capoeira performance of Nives’ flatmate Sandra. She is portuguese, but has already been living in London for quite a long time! She does Capoeira and invited us to the performance! Was really great and a real expericene watching it!

Afterwards we went to southbank where we wanted to watche the Michel Godry exhibition in the BFI Gallery! Was somehow strange, but however worth seeing it!

Later I met Edith, Tony and Alex (a fried of those two) at Southbank for a short chat. Going home from the center was an Odyssee – like always! After all I think I have to get used to that bloody public transport system! However it is always thrilling if you finally find your way home or end up somewhere, because the bus decides – onc again – to terminate on some random stop without any reason.

However we met at Nives’ at 9 (due to the lovely busses it got almost 10) in order to predrink and have dinner. Betta cooked excelent original Italian pasta. She said about herself that she was a bad cook.. well, I guess the worst Italian cook is still better than the best English cook (except Sir Jamie Oliver – for sure).

Fabric was completely crowded and dancing was nearly impossible – the penguin dance is no propper dancing style! However, I really liked the music and the visuals were also nice.., but I didn’t really enjoy myself in there. There were just too many people.

Getting home was another odyssee! But it would be unfair saying it was the transport’s fault! We were a little stupid too, because we were constantly waiting on the wrong side of the street…. However: “Child remember, alcohol is no plaything!!” 😉

Partypeople in the House!

September 8, 2008 at 12:59 pm (private)

Friday, straight after work nives and me went to my flat and cooked a marvellouse pasta bake with tuna and seafood. We had already finished dinner for ages, when alex called that we could now pick them up! So we went to the railstation and … there they were! I was so happy to see them. On our way home to the flat (about 10 minutes from the station) it started to rain so heavily that we were wet over and over, when we arrived!

So after dinner I offerd them some of my chesecake! They liked it – well, they don’t know how cheesecake normally tastes…

After predrinking we tried to catch the last train to the city – we failed. So we took the bus! When we had reached our “final destination”, we asked somebody where the club we were searching was – unnecessary! The queue was so long, we could never have overlooked it! Obi, Alex and me went into the club after tow and a half hours of queuing. It took Luke a little longer! 😀 So we finally enteret “The End” at about three and decided to stay there till they would force us out!

The next day we went to Camden market. Actually we arrived there in the afternoon, because we slept long! After spending all our money on certain stuff there, we went back home in order to eat and predrink! That we went to “Hidden”, which is a club near Elephant&Castle. We would have lost our way totally, if we had not got to know that very strange person on the bus, who showed us how to get there! Thanks alex, for being so beautiful! 😉

Hidden was strage! Few people, but those very stange ones! Luke and Obi nealy got stabbed, because they wanted to sell Austrian cigarettes. Camera of a guy we got to know there got stolen (by the same people). But we also got to know really funny and crazy people!

Sunday we went to covent garden! Actually we wanted to go to the flowermarket! But… it closes at 2pm on Sundays and we got up at 1pm! So, guess what happened… Back home, we chilled.

All in all I slept about 15 hours within tree days and feel almost dead today! so work is really fun at the moment!

embarrassing…

September 4, 2008 at 8:09 pm (private)

For those who don’t know yet – I’m a Lidl-shopper! The reason: Cheapest ever! So today I went there in order to buy lots and lots of food, because I’m hosting a “dinnerparty” tomorrow! Actually Alex, Obi and Luke come to visit me and I’ll cook for them and several other people (Nives, Elisabetta, Reniece, Simone,…).

So I just entered Lidl and realized that I had no trolly – crap! So I went trough the whole shop and out again! As I stood in front of the drollies and watched into my purse I found out that I had no change at all! So back in at Lidl I thought it would be too emberassing to ask for change and walk out a second time! So I decided to do the shopping without that bloody drolly.

WRONG DECISION! What I did was to pack all the stuff into the bags, that are supposed for fruits and vegetables! You should not do that, because they break!

In fact it took me about one hour to do that shopping, because I was busy with packing all the stuff from one broken bag to a new one, which finally broke again after a few minutes!

Pub… Cheesecake… just LONDON

September 3, 2008 at 7:22 pm (private)

Today after work we went to the pub in Sydenham! It’s called the dauphin and for me it looks like a real Englisch pub! We ordered a pint of some strage beer there. It is so strong that you are nearly drunk after a pint! Hell…! Yesterday we went there as well, but I didn’t know already that that beer was not normal! That’s why I finally felt a bit dizzy when I walked home!

However, yesterday just Elizabetha, Jose and me went there. But today also Nives joined us! And as you need to go outside the pub when you want to smoke, we did so and left all our stuff inside. Meanwhile some older people took our table and when we came in again our things where gone.

Luckily we got them again… For Nives this was a rather embarrassing situation, because of the kind of stuff she left… well… I won’t talk about that in detail – I can’t risk getting killed tomorrow!

So after that funny experience I went home in order to bake a cheesecake! I’m quite curious how it will taste, because it looks nothing like a propper cheesecake. So let’s see if I’ll have the heart to bring it to work tomorrow! Cecilia is quite critical concerning cheesecakes! I’ll better try it before myself!

Start up

September 1, 2008 at 7:16 pm (private, work)

I arrived in London on the 13th of August! Actually I should have arrived at 17:45 in stanstead! Whatever – Ryanair didn’t think so and thats why I finally arrived nearly one hour later!

However, I managed being in Sydenham at 10:00 pm! It was so complicated going there and I lost my way several times! Thanks god my flatmate Simone picked me up at the station! Otherwise I would have slept in the streets!

When I finally reached my room, I realized that I had forgotten the adapterplug at home! so there were 2 hours battery left on my mac! time enough to whine and complain to christoph about my start in the city!

So, the first day was quite a mess! but it should get better!
